A ExaGrid Case Study
Maharam, a New York–based textiles company, was struggling with limited on-disk retention and slow, expensive restores because older backups lived on offsite tape. With a small IT team, the company also faced long backup windows—sometimes over 12 hours—making timely restores and meeting retention goals difficult and costly.
Maharam deployed an ExaGrid appliance with data de-duplication, integrated with its existing Symantec Backup Exec, which increased on-disk retention (now five daily, four weekly, six monthly), cut backup times by 50–60% so jobs finish within five hours, and greatly sped up restores. The solution proved easier to manage, more cost-effective than adding raw disk, and positioned Maharam to move toward tape elimination or offsite replication for disaster recovery.
