Loretto is a 90-year-old nonprofit continuing healthcare organization in Central New York with 2,500 employees and 19 programs. As the organization went increasingly electronic, its aging tape-based backup system created chronic bottlenecks and failed jobs—backups that once started Saturday would not finish until Monday—prompting a corporate initiative to modernize its backup strategy.

Loretto implemented Veeam for virtual-server protection paired with a two-site ExaGrid disk-based, scale-out system. The integrated solution delivered pay-as-you-grow scalability, strong deduplication and reduced backup windows over 10GbE, enabled offsite DR replication, and made restores far faster and easier (virtual machines can be recovered in ~15 minutes or instantly), while lowering storage needs and total cost for the budget-conscious nonprofit.
