Lifetime Assistance, which backs up data from six remote sites to a central data center over T1 links, was struggling with long backup windows and frequent failures using straight-disk-to-tape workflows. As data volumes grew, backups interfered with each other—one remote full backup often started Friday night and didn’t finish until Wednesday—while tape management added operational burden.

The organization deployed an ExaGrid appliance that integrated with their existing Symantec Backup Exec, using post-process deduplication and ExaGrid’s GRID architecture for easy scaling. After installation backups run far faster (the once-problematic job now finishes by Monday), no jobs have failed since, management overhead has fallen, and storage efficiency has improved substantially thanks to deduplication (typical reductions of 10:1 to 50:1).
