Law Firm Speeds Backups and Cuts Backup Window by Two-Thirds with ExaGrid

Berger Schatz is a Chicago-based matrimonial law firm founded in 1987 with 36 attorneys across two offices, handling complex, high‑net‑worth cases. The firm’s sole IT administrator was spending excessive time managing daily tape backups and faced a lengthy nightly backup window of about 15 hours, prompting a search for a faster, more automated solution with better disaster-recovery capabilities.

Berger Schatz deployed a two‑site ExaGrid system integrated with Symantec Backup Exec, using post‑process deduplication and WAN replication between offices. The new setup cut the backup window from ~15 hours to 4 hours, achieved roughly 15:1 dedupe ratios, enabled rapid restores, improved disaster recovery, reduced management overhead, and scaled easily for future growth.
