Kingston Improves Retention and Restores with ExaGrid

Kingston Technology, a global leader in memory products, needed to improve email backup and retention after an internal mandate to keep a year of email on disk. Their existing SATA-based backups only held a few weeks of data, and the IT team faced tight datacenter space and heating/power constraints—while roughly 90% of restore requests were email-related.

Kingston deployed an ExaGrid disk backup appliance with post-process data de-duplication (integrated with Symantec Backup Exec) and scalable GRID architecture. The solution reduced storage needs (typical dedupe 10:1–50:1), enabled 12 months of on-disk retention, sped tape backups by about 20%, simplified restores to point-and-click operations, and cut rack space and power/cooling requirements (one 3U ExaGrid can replace multiple 4U SATA chassis), backed by proactive support.
