Ireland’s IT Tralee Triples Backup Retention Thanks to ExaGrid’s Data Deduplication

The Institute of Technology, Tralee is a regional third-level college in Ireland serving about 3,500 students and 350 staff. Its IT team had outgrown tape-based backups—backup jobs were slow, tapes were unreliable, and retention was limited—so the institute needed a more reliable, scalable solution with data deduplication and better disaster-recovery capabilities.

IT Tralee deployed an ExaGrid system that works with their existing Veritas NetBackup, using deduplication and a disk landing zone plus replication to a second campus. The result: backup retention effectively tripled (now keeping three months of all backups), restores take minutes instead of tape-era hours, backup windows remain short as data grows, and the scale-out appliances and assigned support make the system easy to manage.
