InvestorPlace Media Researches Backup Alternatives, Chooses ExaGrid to Reduce Backup Times and Reliance on Tape

InvestorPlace Media, a 37-year-old investment newsletter publisher, was managing 75 servers and 11.5 TB of data using tape backups that were slow, costly and labor-intensive. Full backups took 4.5 days, required 12–15 tapes each run, and consumed about 30 hours per week of staff time, prompting the company to seek a more scalable, cost-effective alternative.

After evaluating several vendors, InvestorPlace deployed an ExaGrid disk backup system for its deduplication, GRID scalability and replication capabilities (working with Symantec Backup Exec). Backups dropped from 4.5 days to about six hours, a major restore completed in roughly two hours, management time fell from ~30 hours/week to 20 minutes, and the company largely eliminated tape and related costs.
