International Council of Shopping Centers Finds Deal of a Lifetime in ExaGrid’s Disk Backup with Deduplication System

The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), a global trade association with 60,000 members, was struggling with lengthy, unreliable backups and restores. Their disk-to-disk-to-tape process left weekly full backups taking up to 48 hours, limited on-disk retention to one month, and often required time-consuming tape restores, consuming IT resources and risking weekend job failures.

ICSC replaced tape with an ExaGrid disk-based backup system working with Symantec Backup Exec, using post-process byte-level deduplication. This cut weekly full backup time from 48 to 12 hours, reduced restore times from a full day to minutes, enabled longer on-disk retention (six months to a year), and achieved about a 10:1 deduplication ratio—delivering faster, more reliable backups that staff describe as “set it and forget it.”
