Indium Corporation, a global materials supplier for electronics and semiconductors, faced growing storage and retention problems as it virtualized its environment. Backing up to tape and then NAS left them short on space and with lengthy backup windows, so they needed a reliable, low‑maintenance disk‑based solution tuned for virtual machines.

They implemented Veeam Backup & Replication for VMs (with Symantec Backup Exec for physical servers) alongside an ExaGrid disk‑based, deduplicating GRID system. The combined solution was easy to install and scale, delivered average deduplication of 7.8:1 (11.8:1 for SQL), reduced backup windows from about 10 hours to just a few hours, and cut restore times from days to minutes.
