A ExaGrid Case Study
Idaho Falls School District #91, which serves about 10,400 students across multiple schools, was experiencing rapid data growth—exacerbated by plans to retain student work electronically—which led to increasingly long tape backup windows and growing administrative overhead. The district needed a more reliable, scalable backup solution to meet current and future performance and retention requirements.
The district deployed an ExaGrid disk-based backup appliance integrated with Symantec Backup Exec, using post-process deduplication and a GRID architecture to write directly to disk and scale capacity as needed. The solution delivered deduplication rates up to 30:1 for SQL, cut backup times by half, enabled two weeks of daily and six months of weekly retention, simplified restores, reduced tape management, and was easy to install and expand.
