Hitachi Consulting Improves Backup Capabilities with ExaGrid

Hitachi Consulting, a global business and IT consulting firm based in Dallas serving many Global 100 clients, faced growing data protection problems as rapid data growth outpaced its tape library. Tape backups were slow, unreliable and time-consuming to manage, producing long nightly and weekend backup windows and preventing the company from fully protecting all of its data.

Hitachi deployed six ExaGrid appliances integrated with Symantec NetBackup (three onsite and three mirrored offsite), using ExaGrid’s post-process deduplication that appears as disk to NetBackup. The new solution cut nightly backups to about three hours (full weekend backups to ~30 hours), increased protected data from ~7TB to 12TB, enabled 30 days of on-site retention and faster restores, and saved the company thousands in license and maintenance fees while simplifying administration.
