Highland Capital Partners Invests in ExaGrid’s Disk Backup with Data Deduplication

Highland Capital Partners, a global venture capital firm, faced rapidly growing Exchange and user data and mounting problems with its LT03 tape backups—long 13–14 hour backup windows, unreliable tapes, and performance impacts during the business day. The firm needed a more reliable, scalable solution that would reduce backup windows, speed restores, and support replication and disaster recovery.

Highland deployed an ExaGrid disk backup system with post-process, zone-level data deduplication (compatible with Symantec Backup Exec). Installation was quick, support has been strong, and backups shrank from about 13–14 hours to 7–8 hours (roughly a 50% reduction); the GRID architecture lets Highland scale by adding appliances and minimizes WAN bandwidth for offsite replication by moving only changes.
