HealthEquity, the nation’s largest health savings account custodian, was limited by straight-to-disk backups that constrained retention and threatened compliance — the company needed to retain some data indefinitely and most data for seven years. Using Veeam for backups, HealthEquity required a solution that would integrate seamlessly, avoid moving the performance bottleneck to storage, and scale with rapid data growth.

After a POC, HealthEquity chose ExaGrid for its tight Veeam integration, higher throughput, scale-out architecture, and dedicated support. The deployment enabled retention beyond seven years, delivered fast five-hour backup windows and quick restores, and produced significant space savings (470 TB logical reduced to 94 TB on ExaGrid, ~5:1 dedupe) while supporting efficient replication between primary and DR sites and planned growth.
