HCC Life Insurance Company, a specialty insurer with over 30 years in medical stop‑loss and life/health coverage, faced growing backup challenges as nightly tape backups stretched into the workday and weekly full backups exceeded 40 hours. Tape usage was time‑consuming and costly, and long backup windows were affecting system performance and staff productivity.

HCC Life deployed a two‑site ExaGrid disk‑based backup system with post‑process, byte‑level deduplication that works with their existing Symantec Backup Exec. With dedicated support and easy scalability, the solution cut nightly backups from 12 to 2 hours and weekly full backups from ~40 to 12 hours, eliminated much of their tape reliance, enabled concurrent jobs, and reduced staff time spent managing backups.
