A ExaGrid Case Study
Harrison Clinical Research GmbH, an international CRO based in Munich, was struggling with backups and restores using a single‑drive tape changer. With a 12‑hour backup window and only four weeks of retention, IT could not complete backups or restore Exchange and SQL servers quickly enough, leaving the company exposed when data deletions were discovered outside the retention period.
Harrison deployed an ExaGrid disk‑based deduplication system that worked with their existing Backup Exec and VRanger jobs. The solution shortened restore time from beyond the 12‑hour window to about five hours, increased retention, and delivered high deduplication ratios (Exchange ~23:1, SQL ~34:1, file servers ~13:1). Administration became simpler, ExaGrid’s support and remote monitoring improved uptime, and the IT team reclaimed roughly 10 hours per week.
