G&W Electric Boosts Data Restore Speed by 90% Using ExaGrid and Veeam

G&W Electric, a century‑old power-systems manufacturer, was constrained by an aging SAN and tape workflow that limited retention to about two weeks, caused long backup windows and slow restores, and complicated plans for offsite DR. With a desire to move to Veeam, improve retention and replication, and compare competitive solutions, G&W evaluated multiple vendors and selected ExaGrid for its pricing, architecture, customer testimonials and strong support.

G&W deployed two ExaGrid systems with Veeam, replicating critical data to a future DR appliance. Backups and restores accelerated dramatically—daily incrementals now take ~10 minutes (versus up to 2 hours), Exchange backups fell from 10.5 to 2.5 hours, Oracle full backups from ~9 to ~4 hours, mailbox restores from ~2 hours to 10 minutes, and file restores from 5 minutes to ~30 seconds. Retention doubled to a month on disk, deduplication averages 6:1 (up to >9:1 for Oracle), and the scale‑out design removes forklift upgrades while delivering highly praised support.
