A ExaGrid Case Study
Greenwich Central School District, which serves about 1,200 students across multiple towns in New York, was outgrowing its EMC backup-to-disk system as data from servers, databases and user folders ballooned. To avoid a costly forklift upgrade the IT team temporarily cut backup retention to five–seven days, but needed a more scalable, cost-effective solution that would restore longer retention and reliable restores.
The district chose ExaGrid for its post-process deduplication, easy setup and strong support; deduplication ratios reported at 30:1–40:1 dramatically reduced disk requirements and ExaGrid’s GRID scalability removed the need for future hardware replacements. As a result the district achieved about 25 days of retention with 37% free space remaining, lowered backup costs compared with Dell/EMC options, and regained confidence and time previously spent managing backups.
