Global Engineering Firm Prefers ExaGrid Over Data Domain for Price/Performance

Permasteelisa Group, a global engineering and architectural systems contractor operating in over 30 countries with ~€1.4B in annual revenue, was hampered by unreliable tape libraries—burning through four units, suffering failed jobs and limited retention—and needed a disk-based solution that would reliably back up growing volumes of large CAD files without disrupting existing processes.

They selected an ExaGrid system (EX2000, later expanded with an EX3000) over EMC Data Domain because of better price/performance and compatibility with their CA ARCserve backup. ExaGrid’s GRID architecture and post-process, zone-level deduplication delivered parallel, faster backups (differentials under an hour), about three months of retention, quicker restores, easier management, and responsive assigned support—significantly reducing backup time and improving restore confidence.
