ExaGrid’s Scalability Positions Augusta State University to Handle Data Growth with Upcoming Merger

Augusta State University, a public institution in Georgia preparing to merge with Georgia Health Sciences University, faced slow, cumbersome restores and high management overhead from an aging robotic tape library and offsite tape storage. The university needed faster recovery times, reduced reliance on tape, and a solution that could handle rapid data growth tied to the upcoming merger.

ASU deployed a two-site ExaGrid disk-based backup system with post-process deduplication that works with Symantec Backup Exec and replicates nightly between campus buildings. The change eliminated tape, provided immediate access to four weeks of full backups and minute-level restores (including remote restores), delivered about 15:1 deduplication to shrink storage and footprint, cut backup management time, and offers easy scalability and strong vendor support for future growth.
