ExaGrid-Veeam Solution Modernizes Backup Environment for Wholesale Power Cooperative

East Kentucky Power Cooperative (EKPC) is a 75‑year‑old wholesale electric cooperative serving 16 owner‑member distributors and 1.1 million residents, operating multiple thermal and renewable plants across the state. EKPC’s IT team was frustrated with a fragmented, time‑consuming backup environment—multiple backup applications, long backup windows (Oracle backups up to 14 hours), and limited bandwidth between locations made management and restores difficult.

EKPC deployed ExaGrid appliances with Veeam at primary sites and a DR site, leveraging ExaGrid’s landing zone and adaptive deduplication to eliminate client installs and speed backups and replication. The solution cut Oracle backup times from 14 hours to about 2 hours, completed daily backups of 60 VMs in a few hours, enabled fast restores and instant VM recoveries, reduced offsite tape reliance, and provided proactive support that freed IT staff to use their time more efficiently.
