ExaGrid Makes the Grade at Victor Central School District

Victor Central School District, which educates over 4,000 K–12 students in Victor, NY, was backing up 26 servers to a tape library. Tape proved unreliable and labor-intensive—restores sometimes failed or took hours—and full weekend backups frequently spilled into the workweek, risking production slowdowns.

The district deployed an ExaGrid disk-based backup appliance that integrates with its existing CommVault solution. Direct-to-disk writes and post-process byte-level deduplication (currently about 11.5:1) shortened full backups from finishing Sunday noon to early Saturday, sped nightly incrementals, made restores virtually instantaneous, improved reliability, and simplified scalability and daily administration.
