ExaGrid Helps United States Distilled Products Company Reduce Reliance on Tape, Improve Backup Times with ExaGrid Disk Backup Appliance with ExaGrid

United States Distilled Products Company (USDP), a Minnesota-based bottler founded in 1981, was struggling with slow, cumbersome tape backups and seven-year retention requirements that forced staff to run backups into the workday and physically shuttle tapes to a bank safe deposit box. Tape management and long backup windows were consuming IT resources and creating recovery challenges.

USDP deployed an ExaGrid disk-based backup appliance that works with their existing Symantec Backup Exec and uses post-process deduplication. Backups shrank from roughly 12 hours to about two hours, deduplication achieved nearly a 60:1 reduction in stored data, restores became immediate and simpler, and the modular system improved scalability and reduced reliance on tape while enabling easier future replication for disaster recovery.
