Labcyte, a Sunnyvale-based biotech maker of Echo® non-contact liquid handling systems used across pharma, hospitals and research institutions, faced an aging backup infrastructure and growing capacity needs as its environment became highly virtualized. Their EMC Data Domain system struggled to keep up, causing long backup windows (previously running from Friday evening into Monday) and exposing the company to unacceptable recovery risk and management overhead.

Labcyte deployed ExaGrid’s scale-out backup appliances with a unique “landing zone,” integrated with Veeam and Nimble, enabling instant VM spin-ups for business continuity and much faster backups. Results included a roughly 50% faster ingest than Data Domain, about 50% less time spent managing backups, an average post-Veeam dedupe of 8:1, dramatically shorter backup windows, simple installation and dedicated support, and scalable capacity to meet future growth.
