ExaGrid Helps Hanover Hospital Increase Retention, Meet Increased Regulatory Requirements

Hanover Hospital, a 119‑bed community hospital serving urban and rural parts of York and Adams Counties, faced rising regulatory data‑retention requirements that its tape-based backup could no longer meet cost‑effectively. Tape was expensive, cumbersome to manage (about 10 hours/week spent on tape rotation), and slow to restore, so IT evaluated disk‑based alternatives to improve retention and recovery.

The hospital deployed a two‑site ExaGrid system working with Symantec Backup Exec: nightly backups write to on‑site disk and replicate 50 miles away for disaster recovery. ExaGrid’s post‑process deduplication delivered an average 14:1 reduction (21.89:1 for Exchange), made restores much faster, eliminated tape handling, simplified management, and provided scalable, supported backup infrastructure to meet retention and compliance needs.
