ExaGrid Furnishes Fast Backups and Restores for Spectrum Industries

Spectrum Industries, a longtime manufacturer of office and retail fixtures, was struggling with nightly backups that had outgrown a 10-tape system. A patchwork of tape, auxiliary drives and on-site storage left the company without a centralized disaster recovery plan, slow restores and an eight-hour nightly backup window that strained IT resources.

Spectrum deployed an ExaGrid disk-based, scale-out GRID solution working with Symantec Backup Exec, using byte-level post-process deduplication to store only changes and keep the most recent backup intact. The result: nightly backups reduced from eight hours to about two hours, weekend full backups under 24 hours, near-instant restores, a practical disaster recovery setup and scalable, cost-effective capacity for future growth.
