ExaGrid Fuels Faster, More Efficient Backups for Seneca Companies

Seneca Companies, a Des Moines–based full-service provider of petroleum storage, environmental consulting and industrial services, needed to modernize its backup environment as it moved to a paperless workflow. Its aging robotic tape library with a single LTO-2 drive produced long backup windows, random tape errors and limited disaster-recovery capability, and the IT team needed a budget-friendly solution that could keep up with growing data volumes.

Seneca chose an ExaGrid disk-based backup appliance working with Symantec Backup Exec, leveraging post-process, zone-level deduplication (23.02:1) and D2D2T workflows. The change cut the longest backup from 30 hours to eight, sped restores, reduced management time by about 3–4 hours per week, and saved thousands annually on tape and travel while providing easy scalability and stronger disaster recovery.
