A ExaGrid Case Study
The State University of New York College at Cortland, a public liberal arts campus in central New York, was hampered by an aging tape-based backup system that led to increasingly slow, failed and timed-out backups, forcing IT to use time-consuming workarounds and split jobs to get backups to complete.
SUNY Cortland replaced tape with a two-site ExaGrid disk-based backup system that integrates with Symantec Backup Exec and uses post-process, zone-level deduplication and replication for disaster recovery. The result: direct-to-disk backups that run much faster and more reliably, dramatic storage reductions (typically 10:1–50:1), minimal WAN usage between sites, easy installation and hot‑swappable maintenance with no interruption to backups, and scalable GRID growth for future needs.
