ExaGrid Disk-based Backup Gets High Marks from Greece Central School District

Greece Central School District, the seventh largest district in New York serving over 14,000 students across 23 schools, struggled with an unreliable tape library that made daily restores slow and labor-intensive—restores could take up to a day and a half, greatly burdening IT staff. Tape failures and a cumbersome restore workflow hindered timely access to files for students and faculty.

The district deployed ExaGrid’s disk-based, post-process byte-level deduplication system, which integrated with existing CA ARCserve and EMC NetWorker backups and enabled six months of on-site retention. The new solution cut restore times from days to minutes (about 90 seconds for a large directory), improved reliability, simplified management, and offers scalable capacity to meet future growth.
