ExaGrid Backs Up Triple the Data in a Third of the Time and Optimizes Oracle Backups

Hospital-Service & Catering GmbH, which supports the Foundation Hospital of the Holy Spirit in Germany, was struggling with a complex, tape-based backup environment (Veritas NetBackup and Veeam) and limited deduplication and storage capacity. Backup jobs frequently exceeded their window, management was time-consuming, and the team needed a more scalable, efficient solution to protect hundreds of virtual servers and large Oracle databases.

The foundation deployed ExaGrid alongside Veeam and began backing Oracle RMAN directly to ExaGrid, plus upgraded to a 20Gb network. As a result they now back up three times the daily data in about one-third the time (backup window reduced to 8 hours from 16), cut Oracle backup time from 11 hours to ~1.5 hours, achieved dedupe of ~53:1 on an 81TB Oracle dataset (and ~5:1 on 178TB overall), and reduced backup management time by ~25%; they are adding a second ExaGrid appliance to scale further.
