Europa Sports Improves Backup Times & Disaster Recovery with Two-site ExaGrid System

Europa Sports Products, a national distributor of sports supplements with over 311,000 sq. ft. of warehouse space and more than 199 product lines, needed to improve its business continuity plan. Its tape-based nightly backups were slow and made disaster recovery difficult and time-consuming, prompting IT to seek a faster, more reliable solution.

Europa deployed a two-site ExaGrid disk-based backup system in Charlotte and Mesquite, TX, integrated with Symantec Backup Exec and linked by T1 lines. The new setup reduced a server backup from days to about 12 hours, uses byte-level deduplication to cut storage needs roughly 10:1–50:1, lowered tape and offsite costs, enables automatic nightly replication for quicker restores, and can be easily scaled as data grows.
