Case Study: Dycom achieves tripled retention and 1-hour backups with ExaGrid

A ExaGrid Case Study

Dycom’s Use of Veeam with ExaGrid Triples Retention, Deduplication Maximizes Storage

Dycom, a nationwide telecom services contractor with more than 12,000 employees operating across 700+ locations, was struggling with backups that in some cases ran as long as seven days and degraded user bandwidth. Facing limited retention on tape and slow restores, Dycom moved away from its previous Unitrends/Veritas solutions in search of a faster, more scalable backup approach.

By deploying Veeam (now at ~80% of sites) together with ExaGrid’s scale-out appliances, Dycom cut its largest backup window from seven days to about one hour, tripled in-house retention from 14 to 48 days, and stores roughly 400 TB on ExaGrid. The combined Veeam+ExaGrid deduplication (typically 6:1–10:1) reduced storage needs, enabled 90% of restores directly from disk in minutes, simplified management, and provided the scalable, staged rollout and strong support Dycom required.
