A ExaGrid Case Study
Dot Foods, the largest food redistributor in the U.S., was struggling with an aging tape-based backup infrastructure as data volumes approached 10 TB. Limited tape drives, a cantankerous tape library and an expanding backup window threatened daily operations and disaster recovery capabilities, so the IT team began evaluating alternatives that would speed backups and better protect their data.
Dot Foods deployed a two-site ExaGrid disk-based backup system that integrates with their CommVault Simpana software and uses post-process, byte-level deduplication with replication between sites. The change drastically reduced backup management time and windows, enabled many simultaneous backup streams, lowered disk storage needs through deduplication, and provided a robust, scalable disaster recovery solution.
