Distributed Applications Technologies (DAT) is a cloud services and application hosting provider (SkySphere) serving vertical markets including legal, healthcare and education. DAT’s tape-based backups were slow, increasingly unreliable and time-consuming—taking about 17 hours on average, requiring 24–28 tapes weekly and making restores slow and logistically difficult from an offsite tape location.

DAT deployed an ExaGrid single-site disk backup appliance that integrates with Symantec Backup Exec and uses post-process data deduplication. The solution delivered roughly 40:1 deduplication, cut backup size by nearly 60%, reduced the backup window to about 7–8 hours and lowered IT backup administration time by 30%, while enabling faster, more reliable restores and greater capacity to scale.
