A ExaGrid Case Study
Dick Smith Automotive Group, which operates eight full-service dealerships in South Carolina, was struggling with an aging tape-based backup environment that made restores unreliable, time-consuming and spread across multiple media. IT staff wanted a simpler, disk-based solution that would speed backups, reduce the backup window, eliminate tape handling and give them confidence in recoverability.
They deployed an ExaGrid disk-based backup appliance with byte-level deduplication that works with their existing Symantec Backup Exec. Backups are now centralized and easy to monitor, restores are point-and-click and significantly faster, and the backup window has shrunk so full VM backups are possible. Deduplication and ExaGrid’s scalable GRID architecture reduced storage needs, simplified management, and increased confidence in disaster recovery while lowering administrative overhead.
