Cross Country Home Services Delivers Operational Excellence with the Implementation of ExaGrid’s Disk-Based Backup with Data Deduplication

Cross Country Home Services (CCHS), a leading provider of home warranties and service plans and member of the Cross Country Group, was struggling with tape-based backups across three 24/7 locations. Nightly backups often started at 8:00 p.m. and ran past 8:00 a.m., restores could take 20–30 hours (longer if tapes were offsite), and the company needed reliable retention to meet seven‑year regulatory requirements.

CCHS deployed ExaGrid’s disk‑based backup with post‑process, byte‑level deduplication (integrating with Symantec Backup Exec), chosen after evaluating ExaGrid and Data Domain. The solution reduced the backup window to eight hours, achieved about a 12:1 dedupe ratio, cut restores to minutes, reclaimed roughly 20 hours per week of staff time (about half an FTE), and was quick to install with strong vendor support.
