Connecticut Transit Drives Better Backups with ExaGrid

Connecticut Transit (CTTRANSIT), the ConnDOT-owned bus service operating hundreds of buses across Hartford, New Haven and Stamford with over 900 staff, faced growing IT strain from nightly tape backups. Rapid data growth and failing tape drives had stretched nightly backup windows to nearly 15 hours, causing system slowdowns that threatened the availability of its critical fleet‑maintenance and purchasing application and consuming significant IT time.

Working with reseller TriAxis, CTTRANSIT deployed a two‑site ExaGrid disk backup system (Hartford and Stamford) that integrates with Symantec Backup Exec and uses byte‑level post‑process deduplication to replicate only changes over the T1 link. The move eliminated tape, dramatically shortened backup and restore times, simplified management, and provided scalable, disaster‑recovery protection—backed by ExaGrid’s strong customer support.
