A ExaGrid Case Study
Clayton State University faced a critical data backup challenge as its data volumes grew. Its previous homegrown tape-based system had become unwieldy, with full backups taking nearly four days to complete, and not all data was reliably protected. The university sought a new, self-hosted solution to gain control and improve reliability, evaluating options including Dell EMC Data Domain before choosing ExaGrid's tiered backup storage system alongside Veeam backup software.
ExaGrid implemented a scalable, disk-based backup system featuring powerful data deduplication. The solution combined two ExaGrid appliances at the primary data center with a third for offsite replication. This deployment drastically reduced backup times from four days to under a day, achieved a combined 12:1 data deduplication ratio with Veeam, and ensured all of the university's data was now protected. The ExaGrid system's ease of expansion and dedicated customer support provided a reliable, future-proof platform for the university's data growth.
