City of Miami Beach reduces 3TB nightly backups with ExaGrid

The City of Miami Beach faced challenges protecting its rapidly growing data set, which approached 3TB in nightly backups. Its existing combination of disk and tape was difficult to manage, leading to constant storage additions and pressure to meet backup windows. The city's IT team sought a new approach and selected ExaGrid's tiered backup storage solution with data deduplication, due to its seamless integration with their existing Veritas NetBackup application.

ExaGrid implemented a two-site system with post-process deduplication, placing one appliance in the primary data center and a second offsite for disaster recovery. The solution allowed the city to recover and redeploy SAN disk previously used for backups, move more data off tape, and eliminate backup window overruns. Restores became much faster and easier. The customer also highlighted ExaGrid's simple setup and proactive, personalized support as key benefits, resulting in significant time and budget savings for the IT staff.
