City of Aurora Replaces Tape with ExaGrid; Reduces Restores from Days to Minutes

The City of Aurora, Colorado — a municipality serving more than 361,000 residents — was struggling with tape-based backups that were slow and cumbersome. Restores could take up to three days when tapes were offsite, backup windows often exceeded 24 hours and disrupted production, and managing capacity growth was difficult.

Aurora replaced tape with ExaGrid appliances integrated with Commvault, moving to disk-based, scale-out backup with deduplication and DR replication. As a result, restores that once took days now take about 30 minutes, backups consistently complete within their windows, storage requirements have been reduced, and ExaGrid’s support and trade-in appliance process simplified upgrades and ongoing management.
