ChildFund Saves ‘Significant’ Storage Thanks to ExaGrid’s Data Deduplication

ChildFund International, a global development organization serving some 19 million children and family members in 29 countries, was struggling with an aging tape-based backup system. Frequent tape hardware changes, drive incompatibilities, mechanical failures and time-consuming offsite tape rotations made restores slow and unreliable and demanded a more modern, cost-effective approach to protect growing data.

ChildFund replaced tape with an ExaGrid disk-based backup system (later pairing it with Veeam), which was easy to deploy and integrated with existing backup workflows. ExaGrid’s zone-level deduplication delivered ratios of about 12.5:1 to 15:1—resulting in significant storage savings—while its landing zone and Instant VM Recovery enabled much faster, simpler restores; assigned support engineers and scale-out architecture further reduced operational risk and avoided costly forklift upgrades.
