A ExaGrid Case Study
Cheshire Medical Center, a 125‑year nonprofit affiliate of Dartmouth‑Hitchcock in New Hampshire, was constrained by tape-based backups to a virtual tape library using Veritas Backup Exec. Tape required manual intervention, weekend on-call staff, frequent backup window spillover and slow, error-prone restores—creating operational risk and long recovery times.
Replacing tape with an ExaGrid disk‑based system (adding Veeam for virtual servers while keeping Backup Exec for physical) delivered a landing‑zone architecture with adaptive deduplication and scale‑out appliances. Backups now reliably finish overnight, restores are fast enough to recover virus‑corrupted servers before remediation is complete, built‑in security limits ransomware risk, and the solution scales easily with strong vendor support.
