Catalina Marketing Gets Rid of Tape and Chooses ExaGrid for Improved Disaster Recovery

Catalina Marketing, a global provider of in- and out-of-store marketing that leverages a massive transaction-level shopper and patient data warehouse, was hampered by slow backups and time-consuming tape management. Backup jobs for shared directories could take up to a week, tape maintenance frequently disrupted windows, and restores from offsite tapes delayed recoveries by a day or more.

Catalina deployed a three-site ExaGrid disk-based backup solution with EMC NetWorker, using zone-level deduplication and GRID architecture for replication and scalable capacity. The move cut backup times to under ten hours, reduced restores to minutes, achieved dedup ratios as high as 37:1, simplified upgrades and disaster recovery worldwide, and freed IT staff to focus on users—backed by responsive ExaGrid support.
