Canandaigua National Bank & Trust Eliminates Tape, Reduces Time Spent on Backups with ExaGrid

Canandaigua National Bank & Trust, a community bank serving the Finger Lakes region with 23 branches, sought to eliminate time-consuming tape-based backups and simplify disaster recovery after already moving some jobs from tape to disk. Handling tapes consumed staff hours and complicated restores, so the bank looked for a disk-based solution that would reduce media handling and improve reliability.

The bank deployed a two-site ExaGrid disk-based backup system with post-process data deduplication, integrated with CommVault Simpana. The solution eliminated tape entirely, delivered deduplication ratios around 10:1, sped up restores, and saved operators roughly two hours a day on backup duties; installation was straightforward and ExaGrid’s support and scalability enabled the bank to grow the system and improve disaster recovery.
