Bollinger Avoids Forklift Upgrade, Replaces Data Domain with ExaGrid

Bollinger, Inc., a national insurance broker based in Short Hills, NJ, was constrained by an EMC Data Domain backup system that could only retain about two weeks of data—far short of its 12-week target—and found expansion too costly. Facing limited retention and slow site-to-site sync, the company evaluated alternatives to meet its capacity and disaster-recovery needs.

Bollinger deployed a pair of ExaGrid appliances (primary and DR) integrated with Symantec Backup Exec and Veeam, choosing ExaGrid for its scalability, post-process deduplication, and lower cost. The switch raised deduplication from about 4:1 to roughly 10:1 and dramatically improved replication speeds (systems now stay nearly instantaneous in sync), cut costs versus a comparable Data Domain, and simplified backup administration while providing a scalable GRID architecture for future growth.
