Bloomingdale Communications Dials In More Efficient Backups with ExaGrid

Bloomingdale Communications, a mid-sized telecommunications provider in southwest Michigan serving about 2,400 households, faced growing pains as rapid expansion and added servers overwhelmed its tape-based backup processes. Tape capacity limits and manual administration were costing the IT team 10–20 hours per week and threatening their ability to protect increasing volumes of data.

Bloomingdale deployed ExaGrid disk-based backup alongside its existing CA ARCserve Backup, with systems at a primary site and a disaster-recovery site. The change eliminated tape, cut administration to 1–2 hours per week, enabled backups of 29 servers in just over 25 hours with incremental backups in about six hours, and extended on-site retention to nearly five months through byte-level de-duplication; the solution also sped WAN replication, provided scalable GRID growth and delivered cost and support advantages over competitors.
