A ExaGrid Case Study
Bethune-Cookman University, a private historically Black university in Daytona Beach with about 3,600 students, was struggling with a failing robotic LTO2 tape library. As data grew, backups became slow, unreliable and costly—the university kept two years of tapes in full racks, experienced backup job failures, and faced escalating tape expenses and administrative overhead.
B‑CU replaced tape with an ExaGrid disk‑based backup appliance (integrated with Symantec Backup Exec), a solution that installed quickly and delivered responsive vendor support. Backups now run reliably each night and are roughly three times faster, restores are much faster from disk, and deduplication of nearly 57:1 drastically reduced storage needs and retention costs—freeing staff time and providing easy scalability and optional replication.
