Associated British Ports Installs ExaGrid, Backup Windows Reduced by 92%

Associated British Ports (ABP), the UK’s leading port operator with 21 ports, was struggling with slow, unreliable tape-based backups. Using Arcserve to LTO-3 tapes led to read errors, failing libraries and a painful process: full weekly backups took 48 hours and restores were slow and manual.

ABP installed ExaGrid appliances and moved to Veeam synthetic fulls, cutting the backup window from 48 hours to 4 hours (a 92% reduction) and making restores effectively instantaneous. ExaGrid’s scale-out GRID and adaptive deduplication shrank over half a petabyte of backup data to about 62 TB of disk, enabled 90+ days retention and up to 400 restore points, and provided easy scaling and faster offsite replication.
