Ascend One Rejects Costly Forklift Upgrade in Favor of Scalable and Affordable ExaGrid Disk-Based Backup

Ascend One, a Columbia, Maryland financial-services company that helps consumers manage debt, was struggling with unreliable backups. Tape backups repeatedly ran out of space, and an earlier disk-based deduplication system proved poorly sized, delivered disappointing dedupe ratios, slow performance, and unsatisfactory support — leaving Ascend One unable to replicate data and facing a lease renewal decision.

Ascend One selected ExaGrid’s disk-based, scale-out GRID backup system, which integrates with CA ARCserve and uses post-process, byte-level deduplication and a landing zone for fast writes. The solution lowered storage requirements (typical savings of 10:1 to 50:1), shortened backup windows, sped restores, and provided easy scalability and dedicated support; Ascend One plans to add a second ExaGrid for replication and improved disaster recovery.
