A ExaGrid Case Study
The Arthritis Foundation, a national nonprofit supporting more than 100 types of arthritis since 1948, faced a sudden tape library failure that nearly tripled its backup times and exposed the limits of its tape-based processes. With weekly backups stretching to 48+ hours, the IT team needed a fast, low-risk replacement that would reduce backup windows and minimize the operational headaches of tape.
The Foundation deployed an ExaGrid disk-based backup appliance that worked with its existing CA ARCserve backup and tape library (for off-site copies), delivering a quick, low‑learning-curve installation. Backups were cut in half to 24 hours or less, data de-duplication averaged 20:1 to maximize disk capacity, and the scalable, cost-effective system reduced staff time and preserved prior investments.
