Architectural Nexus Designs Better Backup Strategy with ExaGrid

Architectural Nexus, a 90‑person architectural firm in the Intermountain West, faced backup capacity and performance problems. Their disk-to-disk-to-tape (D2D2T) system only retained three days of data, routinely exceeded backup windows, and risked much larger file sizes as the firm migrated from AutoCAD to Revit.

Architectural Nexus installed an ExaGrid disk-based backup appliance alongside Symantec Backup Exec; ExaGrid’s post-process deduplication extended retention to about ten weeks, reduced weekly full backups from 30 to 10 hours, and saved roughly 15 staff hours per week in tape management. The GRID architecture also provides easy scalability and the option to add a second system for replication and improved disaster recovery.
